Why APPI: Lifting anything 40 feet long is a challenge but when it’s steel tubing weighing more than 700 pounds the task requires a thoughtful approach to ensure it can be done as safely and effectively as possible.
To solve this lifting problem in their factory, Imperial Steel Products asked us for assistance. After considering all the factors in the application – including lifting points, hoist capacity, line speed and amp draw at the hoist – it was determined a dual hoist system would be the best approach.
Selected to do the work were two of our Columbia HG3700 hoists with controls that allow operating both hoists with individual up/down buttons or locked together and controlled with a single set of push buttons. Each hoist has a tension plate to help ensure the line stays properly spooled when the hooks are being placed on the tubes.
In operation, this dual hoist system allows the operator to lift the tubes and lower them onto transfer carts with absolute control. We’re happy we can say that our hoists get a check mark in both the “cuts cost” and “increases production” boxes for this customer.
