Why APPI: The costs associated with manufacturing and production downtime can quickly destroy a company’s bottom line. When Johnson Timber experienced repeated downtime events due to crooked logs getting jammed in their wood chipper, they began searching for an effective way to clear the jams. Before the problem was identified, a manual block and tackle arrangement was used to clear the chipper. In addition to being painfully time consuming, it was difficult and dangerous work for their employees.
Jim Walcisak, Johnson Timber’s VP of Manufacturing, contacted APPI in order to come up with a better solution to clear the jams. After a full review of their application requirements, a Columbia HD2000 log hoist was specified to perform this task.
Jim said that the jams are now cleared in a tenth of the time as the old method and their Columbia hoist “…was great for both saving time and making work safer.”
