Why APPI: As part of the upgrade for an existing waste water treatment facility, the City of Dallas, Texas, included portable davit cranes located at the screen structure to lift and lower stop logs and dewatering pumps.
Their application required 400 pounds of lift at a 60″ radius and 22 feet of hook travel distance in a package that could be easily moved between three work locations and one of our Columbia 20AAM portable davit cranes was a perfect fit. The pumps and stop logs have a section of wire rope that is attached to them while they are in service so the hoist has a quick disconnect that accepts a ferrule on the bitter end of each wire rope assembly.
In operation, stop logs and dewatering pumps are lifted at three locations, each with a permanently mounted pedestal base, and then moved on a cart and positioned under another one of our 20AAM davit cranes. This second crane is used to lift the stop logs and pumps two stories to the main floor. This sequence is reversed when these components are returned to service.
Working closely with Archer-Western’s Construction Project Manager, Joshua Stombaugh, we were able to ensure our portable davit cranes met – or exceeded – the requirements of the City of Dallas for this application.
