Why APPI: High in the Andes mountains, a large copper mine depends on one our Columbia HG5600 hoists to lift a grate that hangs in a sluice to catch any solids that may get past prior screening points.
The grate is on a swinging arm so when it is lifted its basket shape holds the material. The mine hoist and grate assembly are mounted on an overhead frame that travels at 90 degrees to the sluice to a dump location.
The lifting distance is short – less than 5 feet – but keeping the grate clean is critical to the overall operation at the site. The operator controls the hoist with a pushbutton control and with 15 feet of pendant wire they have a clear view of the operation at all time.
With a motor matched to local voltage, efficient planetary reduction and a permanently-lubricated gear train, this mine hoist will provide maximum life with minimum maintenance – which is especially important when it is working at 8,000 feet above sea level.
