Why APPI: Inspecting over 5,500 miles of pipeline that delivers more than 100 million gallons of gasoline, home heating oil, aviation fuel, and other refined petroleum products daily is a task that Colonial Pipeline accomplishes with the use of a pipeline inspection gauge (PIG).
When Rhyan Sparkman, field project manager for Colonial, began working on building a new PIG trap, he immediately contacted APPI to design a winch that was rated to perform in this hazardous location. In operation, moving the trap door requires 12,000 pounds of force and needs to be moved 30 feet.
